Summary
Footprint is seeking a Tooling Design Engineer to join their team in Gilbert, AZ. The role involves designing and developing composite molds and assembly fixtures to support prototyping activities within the design engineering department.
About the Role
As a Tooling Design Engineer, you will participate in the design and development of complex tooling solutions for sustainable packaging products, utilize CAD software to create detailed models and drawings, conduct simulations to validate designs, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and maintain comprehensive tooling documentation. You will also evaluate materials and manufacturing processes, identify optimization opportunities, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
About You
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- 3+ years of proven experience in tooling design, preferably within the packaging or plastics industry.
- Strong understanding of CAD software (SolidWorks preferred) and FEA tools.
- Understanding of various manufacturing processes, including injection molding, thermoforming, and die cutting.
- Knowledge of tooling materials and their properties.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred:
- Experience with sustainable materials and manufacturing practices.
- Familiarity with Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles.
- Experience with GD&T and tolerance analysis.
- Project management experience.
