Dutchess County SPCA is seeking a Shelter Manager to oversee the daily operations of their animal shelter in Hyde Park, NY. The role includes managing animal care, staff supervision, and coordination with the on-site medical clinic.
About the Role
As a Shelter Manager, you will be responsible for the daily care, feeding, cleaning, and enrichment of all shelter animals, supervising and training shelter staff, and ensuring effective communication between shelter and medical teams. You will also monitor animal population, support intake and adoption procedures, maintain shelter protocols, and manage inventory for operations. The position requires responding to emergencies and participating in cross-departmental collaboration.
About You
Required:
Minimum 3 years of experience in animal sheltering, veterinary clinic, or related animal care environment.
At least 3 years in a supervisory or management capacity.
Strong knowledge of animal care, shelter medicine, and behavior.
Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and conflict-resolution skills.
Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
Preferred:
Experience working alongside or within a medical team.
Proficiency in shelter software or a willingness to learn.
Bilingual skills.
