Summary
Phlow is seeking a Principal Scientist, Engineering to join their team in Richmond, VA. The role involves providing engineering support for the development and production of drug substances, ensuring excellence in process development and technical transfer.
About the Role
As a Principal Scientist, Engineering, you will lead engineering efforts for pharmaceutical process development, including equipment selection, design, installation, and operation. You will perform heat and mass transfer calculations, scale-up modeling, and ensure timely deliverables to customers. Your responsibilities will also include maintaining accurate records, authoring progress reports, and collaborating with various departments to improve manufacturing processes.
About You
Required:
- Ph.D. with a minimum 3 years of experience, M.S with a minimum 7 years of experience, or B.S. degree with a minimum 10 years of experience in Chemical Engineering.
- Process engineering and API manufacturing experience on multi-kilogram scale.
- Experience installing, operating, and maintaining processing equipment for batch and continuous pharmaceutical processes.
- Experience with heat and mass transfer calculations in batch and continuous processes.
- Experience with process modeling and computational software (e.g., Dynochem, ReactionLab, gPROMS, etc.).
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Preferred:
- Knowledge of ICH and cGMP requirements.
- Experience working for a contract organization (CROs/CMOs/CDMOs).
- Experience with technical and operational risk assessments (e.g., process robustness, mutagenic impurities, nitrosamines, etc.).
- Experience with design of experiments (DOE) and related multivariate experimentation approaches.
- Experience with the development and implementation of continuous flow manufacturing processes.
