Barnes & Thornburg LLP is seeking a Director of Benefits to join their team in Indianapolis, IN. The role involves strategic planning, design, administration, and communication of the firm’s health, welfare, and retirement benefit programs.
About the Role
As the Director of Benefits, you will lead the management and strategy of all firm-wide benefits programs, partner with leadership to align benefits with business needs, oversee vendor relationships, monitor industry trends for compliance, and serve as the subject matter expert on benefits. You will also lead annual open enrollment, supervise the benefits team, analyze benefits utilization, and ensure compliance with federal and state regulations.
About You
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, finance or a related field or equivalent experience leading a benefits team or function.
- 8–10+ years of progressively responsible benefits experience in a law firm, professional services, or partnership environment.
- In-depth knowledge of applicable federal and state benefits laws, compliance requirements and regulations (e.g., ERISA, ACA, HIPAA).
- Experience designing and administering benefits plans in a multi-office or multi-state environment.
- Proficient in Excel.
- Strong project management, vendor management, and analytical skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Preferred:
- HRIS system conversion/implementation experience.
- Certification such as CEBS (Certified Employee Benefits Specialist) or similar credential.
- SHRM-SCP certification.
