Avalo, Inc is seeking a Crop Development Lead to join their team in Durham, NC. The role involves overseeing research breeding and crop development programs, managing multidisciplinary teams, and ensuring project deliverables.
About the Role
As a Crop Development Lead, you will oversee all aspects of breeding pipeline development and research field trials, both domestically and internationally. Your responsibilities will include designing and executing breeding programs, collaborating with computational biology teams, managing field trial teams, and fostering a culture of accountability and innovation within the organization.
About You
Required:
Ph.D. or M.Sc. in Plant Breeding, Evolutionary Biology, Agronomy, Crop Science, or a related field.
12+ years of experience in evolutionary genetics, population / quantitative genomics, plant breeding, field research, and/or crop development programs.
Minimum 5 years of personnel management experience, including hiring, mentoring, and team development.
Demonstrated success leading breeding programs and designing field R&D trials.
Preferred:
Proven experience translating R&D into industry-ready applications or commercial products, ideally within an agricultural or biotech setting.
Familiarity with integrating genomic and phenotypic data into breeding workflows.
Strong organizational and project management skills, with a track record of delivering against critical timelines.
Excellent communicator and collaborator across cross-functional teams.
