Summary
City of Newport News is seeking a Controller to manage all accounting and accounts payable functions while maintaining the City's financial accounting records in accordance with governmental accounting principles.
About the Role
As a Controller, you will oversee the Financial Accounting, Payroll, and Accounts Payable divisions, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations. You will be responsible for preparing the City’s Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR), developing internal controls, and leading strategic initiatives to enhance efficiency. The role requires collaboration with various departments and the ability to manage complex financial operations.
About You
Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Math, Statistics, Actuarial Science, or a closely related field.
- 5-7 years of increasingly responsible accounting experience, including 3-4 years of supervisory experience.
Preferred:
- Master’s Degree in a relevant field.
- Designation as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
